It's the last week when we're going to be together in Milano. Time sure is flying, we say...and when the curtain call comes, we will be off on our own adventures. Had our Part 2 MSPME Farewell party in Aula 2.8 which once again was a memorable one. Course Director Antonio Calabrese, Our Risk Professor, Franco Caron, DMQM Rocco Mosconi, MIP IT Guy and best-loved Ciro Marconi was there. They have made an impression in our lives and we, they. The atmosphere was nostalgic and feel-good...only when we realize how short the time is do we truly appreciate one another and the friendships that we have.

Life is Like a Spring Roll/Samosa/Dumpling...

" Mah momma used tuh tale me thaaayt...."

It's the exam season again...and chances are, there'd be a cooking-frenzy in the kitchen. Noticed this phenomena of the high correlation between culinary hyperactivity and exam frequency since Edinburgh. Hence after the Management Accounting trauma on the 28th, the madness began. First there was a Indian samosa and Chinese dumpling roll-out (literally - required = hands to roll + stuff + close + decorate with fork + fry = the whole works!), then a debate on the stuffing (vegetarian vs non-veggie), then the Vietnamese spring roll( again ; stuff + wrap + fry), then the dessert ( peach float yummy!), the spicy Thai Salad and a last-minute rice and vermicelli addition. The result was an awesome array of savoury delicacies of the East; Vietnam, India, Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines withal ameliorating into each other (some of the dumpling and spring roll stuffing went into the samosas and vice versa). It was undoubtedly una fiesta rievocare....(Want the same to happen in your kitchen? Get bunch of MSPME students and give them an exam...on second thoughts, give them a million bucks...) And truly as Forrest sez.....

Cinque Terre

Sun, Sea, Sand, a little surf.

Went to the coastal region of Liguria to the province of La Spezia where the UNESCO heritage site, Cinqueterre, is. The troop was Vanessa, Mai, Ernesto, Jas, Vilma, Fiona and Kirill. Last Saturday was perfect with not-too-hot weather and a little breeze. Cinque Terre is as 'bellissimo' as they say it is....5 quaint little villages along the craggy cliffs off the multi-blue meditarranean sea. It was nice too to be travelling in company.

Took train from Milan to Riomaggiore, the first village. After traversing the streets (one street actually), walked down Via Dell'Amore (along the cliffs by the sea) to 4th village called Vernazza. Vernazza = cliff-diving areas....didnt - satisfied with getting sneakers splashed by sea instead. Ambled down the path for 1 hour to 3rd village of Corniglia and hopped on train straight to 2nd village (Manarola) as some wanted to swim, while other stomaches were rumbling already. Had a good lunch (mine was a cendol-looking Ligurian pasta with green pesto sauce) and thereon to the beach in Monterosso al Mare. Al mare! Prima volta swimming in the sea since leaving Malaysia. One thing about beaches here are the rocks!....Talk about getting a free Reflexology massage... pretty tough on the feet and the sea is extra salty too. Never mind....after wading around for an hour, capped off the day with the 4 hour journey back to Milan....(have funny photos of Ernesto and Mai so that was good too)

Circumlocuting Prolix

Ok, it has been some moments since I last inscribed anything substantial on my blog other than sporadically affixing junky websites and videos... Compassed my Management Accounting Examination today. I am still coming to terms with the fact that I am having exams and assignments... Expeditiously I need to join the MSPME 'Veteran's Club'!

Came into happenstance of my Umea, Sweden, course schedule. It is onerous to fathom how the ages ravine so precipitately - we are almost through with the term in Milan, Italy... and it seems that the tides of time are sweeping us by... Oh yesterdays! You malingers of reason!... I adore the warm weathers but it seems that I am ordained to possess it briefly.

After having much operose due the recent labor, this weekend my cronies and I will traverse the quaint villages of Cinque Terre which is approximately 4 hours by train from Milan. Thus we shall procreate untrodden paths of amicability, fraternity and furthermore proliferate my already prodigious collection of photos.

(This enrty is dedicated to those wisecrackers who discovered this circumambage - you know who you are)

Mulling in Mulhouse

Spent the weekend in Mulhouse with Paul and Jacqueline. It was a very interesting time of self and people discovery.

Discovered that I speak terrible French but I had a great time there thanks to my dear hosts. The people are really friendly and neighbourly like the ones you see on TV . Nevertheless it was a time away in a time away and time passed fairly quickly and before I knew it the 3 days were up.

Arrived in Milan 3 hours late....Several French, Swiss, Italian and Syrians pushed the Eurolines bus because it ran out of battery and the diagnosis was done by a Hongkee passenger who was a bus engineer.Talk about bizzarro.

We are a pretty fun bunch...considering some of our eccentricities (like assignment extensions and the occasional sleeping in class) . I guess we were lucky to have lived together on campus in Edinburgh. This bonded us somewhat which provided the support network for a bunch of foreigners living in a foreign land. There's also the lack of local interaction - which looking at the way the course was designed is somewhat a drawback but no one's complaining.

And so here we are again, deja-vu.....invasion of the assignments, exams and last minute working. Dai dai dai.....buh

Good and Bad Memories

Do you have a medicine for cuts? I cut my finger today.

" I got plaster...Or Tiger Balm but I don't think Tiger Balm can put on cuts"

No, no I don't think so. I want something for cuts. Stupid glass, I was washing it (makes movement) and the piece came out and I cut myself.

"Yeah, the glass is not good quality...The other day, Nga also broke the glass, she just touched it and then don't know how, the piece came off"

Stupid glass. Not good quality one.

It looks weird. I want to remember this.

After all why not remember bad memories? All memories serve a purpose.

Life is a marathon

God bless, completed my 2nd marathon. After the 21st km this time in Prague, I felt my legs getting numb and I knew I was in trouble. Didn't feel like this while in the Rome marathon. But nevertheless I persisted...better go slow than to stop. And so goes life....

It was great to stand at the start with everyone cheering and raring to go - the gentleman next to me was enthusiastic and asked me if it was my first marathon. I said it was my second. Then someone patted me on the back. They were Italian 'golden' marathoners...aged in their 50s but with times of 4h and less! The lady next to me asked me where I was from, and I said 'Malaysia'. She was Czech returning from the US and running her 5th marathon. And like in life you never know when you'll meet nice accompaniments such as these who'll give you encouragement and good will.

Towards the 38th, I started walking, no amount of bananas or sugar cubes could make me run to the next station -couldn't feel my legs anymore. Felt a bit disappointed with myself but I wanted to finish it. Everyone else was walking too....At the 41st, someone behind me said 'Allez!', my favourite song started playing and the volunteers were so cheerful so I picked it up again and ran like nothing all the way to the finish line. And like in life, never give up! "The Pain is Temporary but the Pride is Forever"

Kini flat-mates sekalian dah cabut meronda-ronda Eropah angkara cuti panjang April 25 (Cuti nasional untuk Itali) dan May 1. Meninggalkan aku tunggal membersihkan habuk dan cebisan makanan di dapur yang gian membusuk....menyampah.

Okey, sedang bosan sekarang....dah membersihkan apartment, melompat-lompat di Sportsmanclub gym, membeli barang kat Lidl, membaca 2 buku (Satanic Verses, White Fang), menonton 2 movie (In the name of the rose, Run Lola Run)....

Exams exams exams

Beleaguered by exams, leg cramping, fat on ass, ringing sound in my ears....What? I'm 28 already and still swotting it?? Papers strewn all over narrow table, light bulb busted-overheated...wind blowing outside...I'd believe it when they say Edinburgh's one of the most haunted cities in the U.K. Time:2.22am

First Christmas in Edinburgh

Spent a really nice Christmas dinner with a few of the MSPME course people - we had a pot luck on the eve with all of us cooking something from our native lands. There was salad, baked potatoes with cheese, a really delicious eggplant thing from Prasad's wife (called "vankaya"), beriyani rice, 'kheer', lentil soup, a biscuit cake, pickled rice, omelette, 'aloo ghobi' . The 8 of us really stuffed ourselves but it was really nice with the candle light and all.

On Christmas day itself, there was another feast prepared by American Phd student Robert Lamar and some friends at the chaplaincy. About 20 students left behind in campus for Christmas showed up. We played pictionary and I borrowed some books from the chaplaincy to fill in the long weeks before term reopens in January.

England Road Trip

For the hols, 7 of us packed it in a Vauxhall Zafira on a road trip to the south in a land called England. After leaving wee bonnie Scotland on December 17th, we got lost along the way, argued a lot, ate too much Pizza hut, saw a lot of cathedrals and old buildings, played cards, ran a lot, had a flat tyre 22 miles from Edinburgh and did some ASDA shopping at the end. Total time taken: 6 days, money spent: 270 pounds, miles travelled: 1200, memories made: priceless.
